Everything you need to know about selecting the perfect diamond — from the 4Cs to shape, cut and brilliance.
Every diamond is unique, and evaluated on four universal characteristics — Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat. Understanding these helps you choose a stone that is both beautiful and exceptional value.
The most critical factor. Cut determines how brilliantly a diamond reflects light. Grades range from Excellent to Poor — always prioritise Excellent or Very Good.
Graded D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). For white metals, D–F is ideal. For yellow or rose gold settings, G–J offers excellent value without visible difference.
Measures inclusions and blemishes. Grades range from FL (Flawless) to I3. VS1–VS2 diamonds are eye-clean and offer outstanding beauty at accessible prices.
Carat refers to weight, not size. A well-cut 0.9ct diamond can appear larger than a poorly cut 1ct. Pair carat with excellent cut for maximum impact.
The GIA colour grading scale is the global standard. Our team can help you find the best colour for your chosen metal and setting style.
| Grade | Classification | Description | Best Paired With |
|---|---|---|---|
| D – F | Colourless | Absolutely no colour detectable even under magnification | Platinum, White Gold |
| G – J | Near Colourless | Colour only visible when compared to higher grades — excellent value | All metals |
| K – M | Faint Yellow | Slight warmth visible to the naked eye | Yellow Gold, Rose Gold |
| N – Z | Very Light – Light | Noticeable colour; less common in fine jewellery | Yellow Gold settings |
All natural diamonds contain inclusions formed during their creation deep within the earth. Clarity grades assess how visible these characteristics are.
| Grade | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| FL | Flawless | No inclusions or blemishes visible under 10× magnification |
| IF | Internally Flawless | No inclusions; only minor blemishes under 10× magnification |
| VVS1 – VVS2 | Very Very Slightly Included | Inclusions extremely difficult to see under 10× magnification |
| VS1 – VS2 | Very Slightly Included | Minor inclusions; eye-clean — our most popular range |
| SI1 – SI2 | Slightly Included | Inclusions noticeable under 10×; usually eye-clean in SI1 |
| I1 – I3 | Included | Inclusions visible to the naked eye; affects brilliance |
