DIAMOND SHAPE

One of the first important decisions is diamond shape. Diamond shape refers to the external geometric appearance. Diamonds are cut in various shapes including the beloved round brilliant cut, however also 'fancy shapes' including oval cut, emerald cut, radiant cut, pear cut and more. Each boasts beautiful and unique properties.

THE 4C'S

The 4Cs is a term coined by the Gemological Institute of America - GIA, and has become the industry standard in grading and pricing diamonds.

CUT

Arguably the most important of the four Cs, cut refers not to the shape of a diamond, but the balance of proportion, symmetry and polish. The quality of workmanship directly correlates with the mirror-of-the-stone, as the cut determines the brilliance, fire and ultimately, the sparkle.

Our round brilliant diamonds are standard excellent cuts. If utilizing fancy shapes (diamonds), the grade of the cut is determined by the polish and symmetry of the shape. Working with only fancy diamonds that possess excellent polish and symmetry is simply offering the best.

SHALLOW CUT

Light escapes through the bottom of the diamond, causing it to lose brilliance.

IDEAL CUT

Light bounces off the pavilion facets and reflects directly back out of the top, creating maximum sparkle.

DEEP CUT

Light is redirected off-center and escapes through the lower sides of the pavilion facets.

CARAT

Carat is simply the diamond's weight. A carat is defined as 200mg, and is divided into 100 'points', so describing weight. Diamonds are valued by carat weight because larger diamonds are rarer and more expensive.

However, two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values, which are dependent on the three other diamond Cs — colour, clarity, and cut.

CLARITY

Clarity refers to the inclusions found in a diamond. These can occur during the creation of cultured diamonds when exposed to metal traces utilised during the HPHT growth process or mineral inclusions from the CVD growth method.

Our lab diamonds range between the VS2-VVS1+ clarity range. We strive to only work with the most exquisite diamonds that deliver on our commitment of balancing quality and affordability.

COLOUR

Colour refers to a diamonds natural colour, not the coloured flashes of light the diamond emits when it moves, known as fire. Colour is graded alphabetically from D (Colourless) to Z (Light Yellow).

At TMC, we work with D - F coloured laboratory diamonds, ensuring the brightest and best quality stones.
